Věra Ježková se otevřeně postavila ČEZu

The Anticorruption Endowment (NFPK) today awarded a second Prize for Courage for this year. The honours went to Věra Ježková, who blew the whistle on a probable case of frustrated investment by semi-state enterprise ČEZ.

A shortage of coal will probably frustrate an investment into the modernization of the Prunéřov Electric Power Station. The projected loss may run into billions of CZK.  The public contract for the upgrade project was awarded to Škoda Power under the tenure of Martin Roman at the head of the electricity company ČEZ. There is some circumstantial evidence about Martin Roman hiding behind the main contractor, Škoda Power. Dauntless Věra Ježková resisted strong lobbyist pressures, threatening anonymous messages and fabricated complaints, designed to strip her of a job with the State Environmental Fund.

NFPK has voted to reward Věra Ježková’s anticorruption drive with a Prize for Courage, associated with a premium of 200,000 CZK.

Details about Věra Ježková are available on NFPK website http://www.nfpk.cz/cz/vera-jezkova and information about the modernization of Prunéřov can be downloaded from http://www.nfpk.cz/cz/kauza-cez
