František Mráček vyhrál

The Prague City Court finally decided and ruled today that the dismissal from work of František Mráček, a Corruption Endowment Prize for Courage awardee in 2014, was illegal and he was awarded damages amounting to the cost of court proceedings and the right of reinstatement to his job.
František Mráček, a former head of the Public Transport Department of the Central Bohemia Regional Office, had warned of unusual practices in the management of the regional funds, including dubious investment in the software for the provision of stipends for school transport fare tickets and suspect discrepancies in the public transport subsidies granted to the Central Bohemian Region. But instead of praise, František Mráček was subjected to pressures, which eventually led to his dismissal. In actual fact, his dismissal was propelled by a scheme. Officials then stated that the public transport department was disbanded alongside the position of its head.
The Prague City Court ruled today that the dismissal was invalid and awarded a compensation for the court costs, and the right of reinstatement, to the plaintiff.
“We are terribly happy to see that the court of appeal has finally upheld the ruling of Prague 5 District Court and acknowledged that the dismissal of Mr. Mráček was in conflict with applicable laws. Now it will be interesting to see how his former and actually incumbent employer will treat Mr. Mráček,” Anticorruption Endowment Director Linda Majerová says of the court’s ruling, announced today.
Comments on this ruling came also from František Mráček: “I am glad I gave up a fight and maintained an honest attitude to thinking and fighting. I am also glad my thinking was always positive, although it was sometimes quite difficult. I’d like to thank my family, the Endowment and all the other people for their enormous encouragement and support.”
